'[He] admitted to stealing my land': Homeowner serves property line survey papers to her entitled neighbor after he audaciously builds a driveway over her garden

When it comes to land disputes, it helps to step up to bat with irrefutable evidence. This woman hit a home run when it came to a property disagreement with her neighbor, by scrounging up some long-lost evidence that was completely undeniable. 

Since the dawn of time, humans have fought over land. Greedily devouring every scrap of their property, it's easy to see how a person might overstep their boundary line a little. While there is a little room for leeway—if you're a kind and respectful neighbor—crossing the line can become crossing the line, especially if you have a bad attitude. We all make mistakes sometimes, but the entitled neighbor in this next story knew he was overstepping his boundary line. And were he simply waltzing through or accidentally crossing into this woman's property, that might have been forgivable; but when he started demolishing her beloved garden to make way for his huge, ugly extended driveway, she put her foot down.

    It takes a certain audacity to assume that someone else's well-tended garden is demolishable. To assume, without any sort of proof or statute, that you could rightfully pour concrete to expand your driveway in any direction you want is pretty entitled. But luckily, the little guy in this story was able to hurl a stone of truth at her neighborhood Goliath, taking him to court over stolen lands.

  • So, my attorney got as frustrated as I did that there was no living survey anywhere. The county didn't have it, the lender didn't have it, the home ownership insurance company didn't have it, the title company didn't have it.

  • We contacted the builder and they didn't have it! So, he spoke to my lender and the lender has now requested a survey. My attorney said once that's done, we move forward with suing my neighbor and making him pay to restore the damages.

  • ShallotSilly4944 Good for you! I had a neighbor drop a shed on the corner of my lot once, completely ignoring the setback code and the property line. County made them move the shed, but in doing so they tore up my yard and septic field. Strong believer in fences.
